Insightly Brings Organization to Indiegogo Crowdfunding Campaign
Joe Player, Founder of Groovy Lights and the Light for Cause initiative, is a serial entrepreneur with many successful ecommerce websites. He offers business automation consultation services, and recently launched Groovy Lights Light for Cause initiative. This project, near and dear to Joe’s heart, was inspired by Richard Branson’s ‘Screw Business as Usual’ book which promotes positive change in the world. The Groovy Light is an amazingly cool and funky looking puzzle lamp that is fun and easy to assemble. Light for Cause donates $5 from the proceeds of every Groovy Light sold to the Virgin Unite Foundation.
In the spring of 2012, Joe Player stumbled across the Groovy Light while shopping for lamp to light up his patio. As an entrepreneur he immediately saw the opportunity of this product, and felt he could combine his desire for positive change with a viable commercial business selling Groovy Lights to gift wholesalers, home decorators and consumers. After launching this business, Joe set a goal to meet Richard Branson and get his endorsement at a business summit on Necker Island. However, after receiving the invite to Necker Island Joe was faced with the challenge of raising $40,000 to attend the event. Undaunted, Joe set up a project on the crowdfunding site Indiegogo to finance his trip to Necker Island. At the time, he was using a simple contact management system to run his business and realized he needed a more powerful CRM to manage both his Groovy Lights business and his crowdfunding campaign.
Joe found Insightly on the Google Apps Marketplace and instantly saw the advantages. Joe took Groovy Lights to the Las Vegas gift show and used Insightly to manage the logistics (i.e. inventory, shipping, delivery, marketing materials) of his first big tradeshow. “Insightly is somewhat addictive”, says Joe. “Once you start using it you find new ways of making it more productive.” When Joe began the Indiegogo funding campaign, he and 3 employees used Insightly to manage the funding process and the promotion of his campaign. Because Insightly is an online CRM ‘in the cloud’ Joe and his team ‐ located in Mexico, USA, Canada, Mexico and India ‐ were all able to communicate and collaborate efficiently. “There were tons of tasks required to make both projects successful and we managed every little detail in Insightly”.
Joe reached his goal to raise over $40K on Indiegogo in only 4 weeks, and while on Necker Island he received praises from Virgin Unite Foundation CEO Jean Oelwang and a personal endorsement from Richard Branson. “Insightly helps us track contacts, tasks, and customer and partner correspondence in a single, easy to use application, ensuring that my team has everything centralized in one location which makes us extremely productive and successful.”
